3 Ways to Spot a Hack and 1 Way to Help

How can you spot and solve a hack?

Getting hacked is a threat that looms over all of us every day. It takes constant vigilance to avoid the malicious intent of hackers, and it helps to know the signs of a security breach. Today we’re going to be taking you through some of those signs so that you can stay one step ahead of a possible hack. Let’s get started.

  1. If you didn’t install it, then who did?

Have you been noticing new programs that have been installed on your machine, but you don’t remember installing them? Unless someone else is using your computer, this could indicate that you have been the victim of a hack. Things like new toolbars on your web browser, “suspicious antivirus” software, or other odd programs could all be malicious software masquerading as something else. If you didn’t install it, then someone else did, and that person was probably a hacker.

  1. Have you been locked out of importance defense mechanisms?

Sometimes malicious software will lock you out of programs like your task manager, registry editor, or your antivirus software. If you cannot get into these types of programs, then your security has probably been breached. You should also be wary if you cannot download or install new virus-checking software like Malwarebytes.

  1. Is your bank account missing money?

At the end of the day, one of the easiest ways to tell whether or not your data has been compromised is when you notice that money is missing from the bank account you use to make purchases online. Call your bank right away if you notice anything missing.

How can you solve a hack?

One of the best ways to ensure that you can restore a clean environment is to perform a system restore. This will take your PC back in time to a place where you had no malicious data on your machine. You should also make sure to back up your sensitive files as you work in case you need to replace them during a breach.
