On Saturday, July 30th, 2016 a powerful storm slowly made its way through Ellicott City, Maryland causing severe flash flooding and destruction. In less than 2 hours, more than 6 inches of rain had fallen over the area causing a devastating wall of water that ravaged the historic Old Town portion of the city.
Nearly one month later, certain areas of the city including businesses that have been family owned and operated for decades are still quarantined as the recovery efforts continue. Among the debris, business owners returning to their shops are finding what is left of their assets, inventory, and in some fortunate cases, buried under several feet of mud, their computers.
Atlantic Data Forensics has coordinated with the local government to offer their assistance in helping these businesses get back on their feet by recovering data from computers at no cost to flood victims. Intrigued by this process, on August 23rd, Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger, Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman, and a number of representatives from local press outlets stopped by Atlantic Data Forensics to share their gratitude and to witness a floodwater data recovery demonstration where technicians successfully recovered important data from 3 hard drives that had been buried in mud and water.
Atlantic Data Forensics has had 100% success so far in recovering flood victim’s personal and business data, however the real reward has been the opportunity to meet some amazing individuals who have persevered through the loss of their livelihood. To spend time with these business owners, hear their stories, and see the look of hope on their face when their data appears on the screen before them has been the greatest experience for the employees at Atlantic Data Forensics.
